Mr. Dick Hayseed President
Mr. Clean Company
One Reliable Square
Anyplace, NY 23456
Dear Mr. Hayseed:
Re - our extremely UNDEPENDABLE Mr. Clean dishwasher
In desperation, I'm writing to you about our four-year old dishwasher model WU 1000, serial number 643315 XP. I've enclosed a copy of the original purchase invoice at the price of $868.00
I'd like to draw your attention to the attached bills - repair costs to this machine. I often laugh when I see the Mr. Clean ads about your lonely repairmen. I'm not surprised they're lonely - they're always at our house fixing the dishwasher!
When we bought the machine, we also used a licensed Mr. Clean installer to ensure that all the plumbing, pipes etc would conform to your company's requirements. That cost us an additional $200.00.
Within three months of purchase started the ongoing saga of breakdown and fix-it. I've enclosed copies of all repair bills to date. Please note that my husband and I have spent close to $500 in repairs. This figure doesn't include the service calls that we haven't paid for because your Customer Service Dept. authorized repair at no cost.
A conservative estimate is that we've had at least 20 to 25 service calls on this machine in just over four years. Wouldn't you agree that's somewhat excessive?
And would you say that this product bears testament and upholds Mr. Clean's boast about the reliability of its products?
I should note that this dishwasher is not our only Mr. Clean appliance. We also have A 9800 washing machine and a DE 7600 dryer, both of which were bought in May 1992.
But back to the dishwasher. Isn't it time to admit that we have a lemon on our hands?
And wouldn't it not only be good public relations but also practical in terms of ongoing repair costs for you to replace it at no cost to ourselves?
I'd appreciate your comments and/or action on this problem. Thank you.
Yours sincerely,
Nikki McManus
