THE LION OF FILM DISTRIBUTION
Every one of the movies nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars this year had a Canadian connection, but perhaps the most intriguing fact was that the low-budget, independent, Best Picture winner Crash was distributed by Vancouver's Lion's Gate Films, which also distributed Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11 when no one else would touch it. Retribution for US domination of Canadian movie screens? Or just smart marketing? Whatever! Lion's Gate sure knows how to pick winners.
